James William Macken, 80, Port Charlotte passed away Monday, January 8, 2018 at Englewood Community Hospital. Born on October 5, 1937 in Albany, New York to the late John and Catherine Birch Macken; he had been a resident of Charlotte County for twenty-three years coming from Albany. James served in the U.S. Airforce from 1954 - 1958 James retired from Tobin Packing Company in Albany after twenty-three years. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Fr. Michael Cottrell Council 7672. He is predeceased by a son, Kevin in 1994. Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-seven years: Arlene Macken of Port Charlotte, Florida; two daughters Victoria (Patrick) Cummings and Michele Macken both of Englewood, Florida; one son: Patrick Macken of Henderson, Nevada; one brother: William Macken of Port St. John, Florida; six grandchildren: Joshua, Joseph, Christopher, Brittany, Shelby, Alexis and two great grandchildren: Kyrin and Nova. A Funeral Mass will be said on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 9:30 Am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 5265 Placida Road, Englewood 34224 with Father Richard York, officiating. Inurnment will follow the Memorial Garden with honors by the U.S. Airforce. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of SW Florida, 16100 Roserush Court, Ft. Myers, Florida 33908 in memory of James Macken. Englewood Community Funeral Home with Private Crematory has been selected to handle arrangements.
