James Richard Mayers, age 59, of Las Vegas, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017. James was born September 2, 1957 in Salida, CO to the late Ronnie and the late Nellie Cline Mayers Brown. James was a very kind, gentle man who was passionate about human rights, gay rights and the natural beauty of the United States. He started his career as a police office in Grants NM, then worked as a truck driver and tour bus driver, before he found his love of working as a tour guide. He truly enjoyed taking groups of tourists from other countries and showing off the beauty of the United States, in particular the National Parks. He could easily rattle off historical and cultural information about the Parks and the other beautiful natural areas of our country. James was a proud gay man and was also very connected with Native American culture, history and beliefs. He was usually seen wearing turquoise and silver Native American jewelry. James is survived by his husband Jonathan Ha; brothers Jeff Mayers and Jon (Tracy) Mayers; and pets Emootonka and Wahpee. No services are scheduled. .
