James Brice McClenahan
February 13th, 1931 - December 25th, 2014
Jim (Doc) McClenahan, age 83, passed away Christmas morning at his home in Jackson, CA. He was a dear husband, father and grandfather of nine. Jim was born in Des Moines, IA to the late Elizabeth Ruth (Johnson) and Edgar Andrew McClenahan. Jim graduated from DePauw Univ. (Phi Beta Kappa) in Indiana in 1953 and from Washington U. Med. School (Alpha Omega Alpha) in St. Louis in 1957. Jim was on the Clinical Medical staff at Stanford University where he worked for 20 years primarily as the Director of Cowell Student Health Services, where he was known for his kind and fair leadership. He lived in Palo Alto, CA prior to relocating to Amador County in 1983 to become the County Public Health Officer where he met Glenda Tracy, who was the County Mental Health Director; they were good friends for over 20 years before their marriage on April 21, 2006. Jim was the Public Health Officer for Amador County for 10 years. He was active on the Board of Directors of Operation Care as well as the Homeless Shelter, the Ambulance Committee, and many other organizations during his tenure. He retired in 1994 after a 37 year medical career. After retirement, Jim and Glenda owned and operated an antique store in Amador City for 5 years; Jim's focus was on restoration which he enjoyed. Jim is survived by his wife, Glenda Tracy McClenahan of Jackson; children, Wynn Burkett (William) of San Francisco, Kristin Bradach (Jeff) of Wellesley, MA and Brian McClenahan (Ellen) of Montclair, NJ; sister, Nancy Skochdopole (Richard); grandchildren, Elizabeth, Katherine, Will, Claire, Sarah, Molly, Wynn, Meg and Charlotte; former wife and mother of his 3 children, Sharon Elsen of San Francisco. Friends are invited to attend a celebration of life on Sunday March 15, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Trinity Episcopal Church 430 State Hwy 49 Sutter Creek, CA. Memorial contributions may be made to Operation Care 619 New York Ranch Rd. Jackson, CA 95642, Salvation Army Lodi or Hospice of Amador & Calaveras, PO Box 595, Jackson, CA 95642.
