July 3rd, 1942 - November 6th, 2023
James Henry Meyers (Jim), 81, of Largo FL passed away on November 6th, 2023. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Melvin (Pooch) and Mae Meyers and his brother John. He is survived by spouse Carolyn; brother Joe (Sally); children Kari, Brent (Kelley) and Corey (Erika); grandchildren Ashley, Stacie, Fletcher, Christian, Trevor, Braylin and Devon; and several nieces and nephews. Jim graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central. He proudly served our country as a member of the naval forces during the Bay of Pigs and Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He started at the Muskegon Elks Country Club as the youngest head professional in the country where he spent 26 years as the pro. He was a lifetime member of the PGA. His career path then led him to Florida where he continued his love of golf while working at Pro Golf and Cove Cay. He held several course records throughout his career and continuously shot his age. He also carded three hole in ones in this last season of golf (lifetime total of 23) along with two double eagles. Jim loved people and would never forget a name. His outgoing personality was the reason he was loved by all and had many lifelong friends. He was always ready to talk sports and tell stories of his own. Jim loved his cats and a cold drink while relaxing with Carolyn on the porch watching the golfers and spectacular sunsets over East Bay Golf Course. Jim loved to entertain when his children and grandchildren came to visit, he will be dearly missed by all. A celebration of Jim's life will be held in Muskegon at a later date.
