James O. Mitre
June 15th, 1958 - May 26th, 2014
Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of Gods kindness: kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile. -Mother Teresa Jim was the living expression of Gods kindness. He demonstrated love, practiced patience, and taught compassion daily. He taught through his actions, not just words. He provided a powe example of hard work, humility, and generosity of spirit to all who knew him. He will be sorely missed. James Ochave Mitre was born June 15, 1958 in Norfolk, VA. The second of seven children, the family moved many times along the east coast before relocating to Hawaii. Jim grew up primarily on Oahu. The family eventually moved from Hawaii to Seattle, and Jim graduated from Chief Sealth High School in 1976. Jim graduated from Shoreline Community College in 1986, and earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees in nursing from University of Washington - Bothell. He worked at Seattle Childrens for 32 years, primarily as a registered nurse on the inpatient psychiatric unit. He began teaching nursing at Seattle Pacific University in 2008, while continuing his nursing practice at Childrens. He worked hard, and had a lasting impact on the many lives he touched. Jim was a lifelong learner, both in the classroom and in life. His talents and interests were varied, and his love of knowledge and truth infectious. A talented musician, Jim could play any instrument he picked up. He strongly believed in the healing and restorative power of music. He could often be found with a guitar, ukulele, or drum in hand, ready to share a song. Jim met his wife Teresa at Childrens, and they married in Seattle in June 1983. They had two children, Kristen, 26, and Nick, 22. The family lived in Lynnwood. Jim was active in his childrens lives, coaching sports, supporting their music programs, and providing endless encouragement. He was a wonde and loving husband and father. A truly unique spirit, Jims positive attitude, easy smile, and generous nature were impossible not to love. He was consistent and genuine, always fully living his truth, and encouraging others to do the same. Jim passed away on May 26, 2014, in Seattle, WA. On that day, the world lost one of its brightest lights. It is our hope that we can each attempt to fill that void with increased positive energy, service to others, and dedication to good. It certainly wont replace Jim, but it will help keep the darkness at bay. Jim is survived by his wife Teresa; daughter Kristen; son Nick; parents Claro Jr. and Purificacion; siblings Chico, Joel, Percy, Marie, Jeff, and Lynn; and his large extended family. Memorial Services for Jim will be held on Tuesday June 3, at 1 pm, in Upper Gwinn Commons at Seattle Pacific University . Parking is available in any commuter lot, and campus security will NOT be issuing parking tickets that afternoon in light of the event.
