James Joseph Mooney, 85, of Englewood passed on to assume his place at the table of our Lord on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at his Charlotte County residence in the arms and beloved company of his loving family. Beloved son of John and Jayne (DeLong) Mooney he was born on May 13, 1928 in Paterson, NJ. Jim served in the US Navy during World War II and had been a resident for twenty-seven years coming from Paterson, where he retired as a marine mechanic. A true gentleman, always young at heart, he was an American sailor and patriot, honorable son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, Jim will forever be remembered by all who knew him for his commitment to chivalry, honest, loving a virtuous life and most importantly a stubborn commitment to selflessness and maximizing the quality of life for those around him. A member of the "Greatest Generation" and a World War II veteran, Jim worked as a Realtor for Key Realty, was an avid boater and golfer in his Englewood home. He was a communicant and Eucharistic minister at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Although he is peacefully watching over us from the stars above, his energy, goodwill and passion for morality will radiate among the rest of us for the remainder of our days.
