Major James Samuel Nash, (Age 95) US Air Force (Ret) James Samuel “Jim” Nash was called home to his Lord and Savior on 22 October 2012. Jim Nash was a long time resident of Annandale Virginia where he lived for over 45 years. Jim was born in May 1917 in Tucker, Georgia to Claud and Sarah Ruth Nash. He was the eldest child, and the singular boy among five girls. A self-proclaimed “Georgia farm boy”, Jim joined the Army Air Corps in 1940 and served with distinction as an Army Recruiter. He also was a pilot in World War II where he flew the B-26 Marauder. Later in his military career, Major Nash served on the staff of the Air Education and Training Command (AETC). After retiring in 1965, he joined Civil Service where he led the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) office for Secretary of Defense until retiring again in 1980. Mr. Nash was also a successful banker serving as Chairman of Peoples Bank and New Farmers National Bank of Cave City Kentucky. He was an avid real estate investor and entrepreneur in the Washington, DC area for over four decades and often commented that he considered himself to be “the luckiest man alive”. A longtime member of the Shiners organization, he was also a philanthropist. He was instrumental in starting the organization now known as Service Source, a jobs program for handicap personnel which now employs over 1,500 individuals with disabilities. Jim Nash is preceded by his wife Ruth Handy Nash and is survived by his daughter Carolyn Nash Mucciaro, his son Robert Wilson Nash and his grandchildren Sara and David Mucciaro. A Graveside service at Arlington National Cemetery will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 10am. Please assemble at the Administration Building at 9:30am.
