Biography Kernersville-James Robert Nelson, Jr., 74, passed away Monday June 27, 2011. Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held 11:00AM Thursday June 30, 2011 at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel with his nephew Rev. Frankie Matthews officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Gur Cemetery. A native of Forsyth County, he was the son of the late James Robert Nelson, Sr. and Nora Echols Nelson. He was retired from Norfolk-Southern Railway following 30 years of service. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by a brother Jackie Leon Nelson. Survivors include his sisters Mary Brown of Kernersville, and Rosa Matthews and Curney of Winston-Salem; brothers Terry Nelson of Portland, Oregon, and Chuck Nelson of Kernersville; niece Tammy Atkins of Kernersville, nephew Rev. Frankie Matthews and Edith of Lexington; great nephews Zachary Matthews and Mary Beth of Lexington, and Nicholas Matthews of Lexington; great-great nephew Waylon Matthews of Lexington. The family will visit with friends from 6-8PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
