James "Jim" Edgar Newman

James "Jim" Edgar Newman, 74, of Yuba City, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018, after a long battle with cancer. Jim was born in Lodi, CA, on April 28, 1944, the third of 8 children born to Carmen Gonzales Newman and Elbert A. Newman. He was raised in and spent most of his adulthood in the Yuba City/Sutter area. Jim spent four years in the Air Force before pursuing a career in sales. After settling in Sutter, Jim owned his own business selling crop insurance. Jim served on the Sutter School Board for 18 years and was active in the Sutter Lions Club and elected Governor of District 4C-1 in 1997. His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, and watching sports. Jim had a great sense of humor and a laid back disposition. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Lynn; and their daughter, Bethany (Brady) Newman Schmidl; grandchildren, Maddy, Olivia, and Chase; son, Michael (Lisa) Newman; grandchildren, Brandon and Krystal; and son, Matthew (Erin) Newman; granddaughter Hailey; sisters, Linda Clark (Eli) and Diana Harter (Jock); brothers, Elbert (Debbie), Kenneth (Sumiko) and Michael; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents, Carmen and Elbert (Al); and brothers, Richard and Larry Newman. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, American Cancer Society or Lions Club charities. There will be no visitation but a memorial service will be held on Friday, July 13, 2018, 2 p.m. at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, 817 Almond Street, Yuba City, CA.
