James Louis Norton
January 18th, 1932 - March 11th, 2016
On the morning of March 11, 2016, James passed away peacefully after a brief illness. James was being visited and comforted by family members at Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville, CA at the time of his passing. James was 84 years old. James Norton was born in the town of Karval in Lincoln County, CO on January 18, 1932. He was the third child of Fern Norton (Cook) and Otis Norton. James Norton was raised in Colorado with one older brother, one older sister, and one younger brother. He joined the Army in 1950. After 21 years in the military he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant First Class. During his service in the Army he spent time in Korea, Japan, and Germany, and did two tours of Vietnam. He earned a Bronze Star, Meritorious Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. After serving in the Army, he settled with his family in Seaside and drove for Toro Petroleum delivering gas through Monterey and Santa Clara Counties and briefly owned a gas station in Marina, CA. In 1995, he and his wife Jeannine retired to Yuba City, CA where he was active in The Masons, The Sunset Buttes Lions Club, and The Sutter Lions Club, and American Legion Post 705. James was preceded in death by his parents, Fern Norton and Otis Norton and his brother, Leonard Norton. He was also preceded in death by his grand daughter Royce Norton and his puppy Susie. James is survived by his wife of 33 years, Jeannine Norton, his brother Eddie Norton and sister Opal Palmer. He is also survived by his eight children: James, Kathy, Daniel, Randy, Salina, Beverly, Joyce, and Nancy, 15 grand children, 13 great grandchildren, and his puppy Wendy. Flowers can be sent to Ullrey Memorial Chapel. Donations may be sent to the Lions Eye Foundation, 2340 Clay Street, San Francisco, CA 94115. Celebration of Life will be held at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, Yuba City, CA, on Monday March 21, 2016 at 11:00am. Reception to follow.
