James Orr
September 4th, 1932 - May 26th, 2019
"Belchertown - James "Mike" Orr, 86, died on May 26, 2019. Born in Pelham, September 4, 1932, he was the son of John and Clara (Ely) Horr. A lifelong resident of Belchertown, Mike served his country in the US Army during the Korean War, and was discharged in 1953 as a Corporal. He was a lifetime member of the Belchertown VFW Post 8428 and the American Legion. Mike worked for VT Central RR for 42 years before his retirement. He had a lifetime love of trains. He was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Rita (Congo) McCarthy Orr, along with his children Lindy Orr of Amherst, Michael Orr (Gigi) of Framingham, and Jeffrey Orr (Liane) of Alpharetta, GA, along with his step children Janice McCarthy-Rogers (David) of Belchertown, Jean Shephard (Tim) of VT, Darlene McCann, Debbie Guyer, and Douglas Williams. He also leaves 9 precious grandchildren, Spencer and Madison Orr, Ben and Matt McCullough, Paige and Jordan Shephard, Alex and Nicholas Guyer and Doug Williams, Jr. and his great granddaughter Isabella Curto. He also leaves his only remaining sister Blanche Owens of S.Carolina. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by 11 siblings and 2 grandchildren Gina and Billy McCann. Calling hours will be Sunday, June 2 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home, 10 Maple St. (rte. 202). A graveside service will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Quabbin Park Cemetery, Ware. Please meet directly at the cemetery. For those wishing to honor his memory, the family asks that you make donations to either Shivering Shamrock Foundation, 170 Jackson St. Belchertown 01007 or Belchertown VFW Post 8428, 41 Pelham Rd, 01007."
