Mr. James A. Papa, 83, of Fonda, NY died peacefully on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 following a brief illness. Born in Amsterdam, NY on December 12, 1934 he was the son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Papa Sr. A lifelong area resident, Jim was a 1954 graduate of Fonda- Fultonville Central School. He served proudly in the United States Army from 1955- 1958. Jim retired from Fonda- Fultonville Central School District after 30 years of service. On February 8, 1964 he was united in marriage to Jean Marie Manley. Together for 54 years, they had a wonderful life together, built on faith and love. Survivors include his wife, Jean; his daughter, Krin Marie Asselta and her husband Paul of Corinth, TX; sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Richard and Thomas Jr.; a sister-in-law, Carol Manley; a nephew, John and a niece, Dina. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Sandflats, Fonda, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ayers Memorial Animal Shelter, 133 Hilltop Road, Sprakers, NY 12166.
