Jim passed away on April 8, 2018, in Brighton CO at the age of 59. Jim spent his early years living in Denver near Lincoln High School. At a young age, the family moved to the farm in Brighton CO. Jim quickly adapted to the country, the farm life and the cowboy way. Jim was active in 4H and FFA and the Boy Scouts. He spent his youth working with his father on the farm, raising cattle, baling hay, doing anything as long as he was doing it with Pa. Jim was active in the rodeo circuit riding bulls. Jim grew up learning the construction trades working side by side with his Dad. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t build. Jim graduated from Brighton High School in 1977. Soon after graduation, he pursued a career in law enforcement. First working for the Brighton Police Department, then the Lochbuie Police Department, the town of Eagle Police Department, and finally the Eagle County Sheriff Department as a Shift Commander. Jim’s heart was always in being a cop. He was most proud of his professional accomplishments as a law enforcement official. The wall in his office is covered with certificates, citations, newspaper articles and awards. His law enforcement career ended suddenly when a truck hit his patrol vehicle outside of Eagle on I-70. It was then that Jim began a career path that would lead to great things for him. Jim built Timberline Exteriors and then J.A. Perry Exteriors into hugely successful businesses. He had the 2nd largest gutter company in the state of Colorado. He also owned and operated U.S. Eagle Security. Whether building a house, hanging gutters, or protecting lives and property, Jim was an amazing businessman. Together we even created a crazy business called Rent-A-Chicken. Whatever Jim was doing, he pursued it with total gusto, giving his heart and soul to the endeavor. He always lived by the motto “Cowboy Up”. He was a man who always lived largely. Jim never wanted to have a ‘bucket list’, he wanted to constantly be on an adventure, leave no stone unturned, no path unexplored, nothing undone. He wanted to live his life to the fullest all the time. Jim loved who he loved, and that love was deep. His family was everything to him. He held his friends close. Once Jim called you a friend, you were a friend for life. He was once called “a hardboiled egg”. But to those close to him, there was always a way through the shell. He was always the first one to be anywhere when someone needed him. Jim believed in helping others, from donating to various charities throughout his life, to feeding the homeless and hungry in freezing temperatures in downtown Denver. He always strived to improve situations for others. Jim was an amazing artist. He enjoyed metal art sculpture, wood carving with his chainsaw, doing any type of handcraft work. He could draw anything. His talent was endless. Aside from a short time that Jim lived in Washington State and Oregon, Jim never strayed far from his hometown of Brighton. Jim’s greatest personal accomplishment aside from his children was the ranch he owned in Oak Creek CO. He truly loved his place in the mountains. Jim’s fondest memories were the trips with Pa, friends, and family to the ‘old cabin’. He loved to share the stories of the fun and adventure that abounded there. He loved the times sitting a ‘Pickin’ and ‘Grinnin” with Dad on the guitar. Jim was incredibly proud that his family homesteaded in Sedalia CO as pioneers. Jim’s family is now 7 generations here in Colorado. Jim is survived by his wife, Jann. Children Trent (Jill), JD (Amanda), Eric (Jen), and Alina. Step-children Gina (Fred), Anthony (Tawny). He is also survived by his Brother Dave, and Sister Linda (Victor). Jim leaves 12 grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces & nephews, and a world of friends gathered throughout his life. Jim was preceded in death by his Sister Judy, Brother Doug, his Father Russ, and his Mother Delores. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one the following organizations, or a charity of your choice. Both of these organizations were very dear to Jim.
