Obituary James F. Phelps, Jr (Jim), 82, passed away May 26, 2014 with family at his side. A native of Colorado Springs, Jim was born May 3, 1932 to James (Fat) and Betty Phelps. He was a graduate of Colorado Springs HS (Palmer) and Colorado A&M College (Colorado State University). Jim was married on July 29, 1985 to Pam Phelps, who preceded him in death in 2012. Jim began work straight out of college with Farmers Insurance and ultimately retired from the Colorado Springs Regional Office after 38 years. He worked in several capacities, including managing an Albuquerque, NM claims office. Jim was a highly accomplished amateur golfer throughout his life, competing in local, state and regional tournaments and putting his name on many a trophy. He was a fixture at Patty Jewett Golf Course for over 75 years, as well as a member of Colorado Springs Country Club. He served on the governing board of the Colorado Golf Association from 1969 to 1974 and came back to volunteer for the CGA in the 1980s and 1990s as an On Course Official. Jim enjoyed annual gatherings with school friends to play golf. Although health and capacity diminished his ability to regularly attend, he enjoyed weekly lunches and occasional trips with the "tired old terrors" -- a collection of school mates with whom hed played golf with for many years. He was a huge CSU and AFA sports fan, and was inducted into the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame (2003) as a member of the undefeated 1948 Colorado Springs High School football team. Dad will be remembered for many things, but especially for his discipline and integrity, as well as his generous service to and love for others as exemplified in his volunteer work throughout his life, and especially with his church and senior organizations in the area. Simply, a good man with a good heart. Jim and former wife Joan raised three children in Colorado Springs. He is survived by two sons, Doug (wife Donna of Littleton, CO) and Ron (wife Karen of Colorado Springs), two step-children, Vicky and David (Phoenix, AZ) and his loving grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his only daughter, Shari Phelps Bluto. Services will be held at St George's Anglican Church, 217 E. Pikes Peak Avenue on Saturday, May 31st @ 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association of Colorado. Services St. George's Anglican Church 217 E. Pikes Peak Ave Colorado Springs, CO
