Aspen Mortuaries - Lakewood
James Joseph Pollock
August 11th, 1962 - January 1st, 2017
James Joseph Pollock, age 54, passed away on January 1, 2017. Jim was born on August 11, 1962 to John and Phyllis Pollock in Winnipeg, Canada. He was raised with his brother and sister in Rouses Point, New York. He chose physics as a career, earning degrees from Villanova (BS) and Baylor (MS). After working several years for McDonnell Douglas at NASA in Houston, he went back to school and earned his Certification in Medical Physics, which eventually brought him to Colorado to work for Health One. He retired in 2013 to spend more time with his daughter and hone his skills as a bargain shopper. Jim loved to travel and especially enjoyed his trips to Africa, India, Peru and Australia. He was a certified SCUBA diver and was able to dive in the Great Barrier Reef with his family. He loved caving, and due to his 6 foot 2 inch frame, got stuck in many tight spots. He also tried very hard to support Laura with her love of skiing, and earned the nickname †œFlurry† for his efforts. Jim loved to BBQ and used his grill and smoker to create many delicious meals, except for the Thanksgiving when the turkey still required hours of smoking and all the trimmings were ready. He had to raid the freezer to find a suitable substitute for thanksgiving dinner. Chicken wings it was!! He leaves behind his wife Laura, his daughter Jessica and her mother Kathy, his mother Phyllis, brother Jack, and sister Jean. John, his father, preceded him in death. Services will be held at Aspen Chapel, 1350 Simms Street, Lakewood, Colorado on Friday January 6, 2017, at 10:00 am. A reception will follow at the Town Hall in Morrison. 110 Stone Street, Morrison, 80465. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Park Foundation at donate.nationalparks.org
