James L. Prendergast
March 10th, 1930 - April 9th, 2018
James L. Prendergast, 88, of Hilton Head Island passed away on Monday, April 9, 2018 after a long illness. Jim was born in Altmar, NY on March 10, 1930. After several moves, the family settled in Knoxville, TN where he attended high school and college. Prior to moving to Hilton Head, he had a short career in radio broadcasting before settling into a long career in textile publications. Jim was a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary for 30 years, the Civil Air Patrol, and the Country Club of Hilton Head. His passion was sailing with his friends on Lake Lanier, GA, golfing with his wife, and doing Coast Guard Patrols on his friend Ivan’s boat. Jim is survived by his wife of 37 years, Doris; son, Lee (Victoria) Prendergast; daughter, Susan (Russ) Abernethy and grandson Dylan. A memorial service will be held at The Island Funeral Home and Crematory, 4 Cardinal Road, on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 11:30 am with a Celebration of Life to follow at The Country Club of Hilton Head, 70 Skull Creek Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, PO Box 3827, Bluffton, SC 29910 or to a charity of one’s choice. Islandfuneralhome.com
