RANKIN, James Rowe 84, departed gracefully on March 19, 2017 after a decade-long duel with Alzheimer's. Born September 8, 1932 in Ossining, NY. Educated at Ossining HS ('50), Colgate Univ. (BA '54), Harvard (MA '55) and Univ. of Chicago (PhD '63). US Navy '55-'57. Jim served as Professor in the Education and English departments at the University of Arizona from 1971-1997. Jim's greatest loves were his dogs, classical music, reading, whistling, PBS, the Yankees, and his family, especially his (surviving) wife of 57 years, Mary Lou. Also survived by five children, Cynthia Burcham (Bill), Thomas, Janine Malkin (Larry), David (Suphannee) and Michael (Catalina) and 12 grandchildren. Jim was a man of noble mind and sharp wit, and he's now playing piano again. Funeral Mass and reception Monday, May 15, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley, 505 N. La Canada Dr., Green Valley. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.
