James T. (Jim) Sheridan passed away of complications from COPD on March 5th, 2021 at the age of 67. He was preceded in death by his parents Tom & Mary Lou (Moon) Sheridan. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Morgan Sheridan, his sisters Eileen Rochelle & Kathy Newton & husband Rick Newton, nephews and great nephews & nieces, his former wife Charna Carole Michelle Stafford and former step children Anna Brewer & Jeremy Stafford and dozens of friends. Jim had a life long interest in fixing things and as a child used to take thing apart and put them back together. His mother said he inherited that knack from his grandfather Moon, so it was honestly come by. He was born in California, but raised in Lincroft, NJ where he loved to spend time in the swamps behind his house. He always loved nature, was an avid camper and while living in NJ, loved camping at the Delaware Water Gap. Jim was a Life Scout in the Boy Scouts into his teens. He came to New Mexico with his scout troop to attend Philmont Scout Ranch where he fell in love with the state. After serving in the US Coast Guard active reserves for six years, he returned to New Mexico bringing his former wife and her children. While their marriage did not endure, their friendship did. Jim worked for many years in apartment maintenance. After marrying his wife in 1985, they moved to Red River to manage the former Rio Colorado Lodge for nearly three years. On returning to Albuquerque, he continued working apartment maintenance and often supervised high end remodeling projects that had him traveling to Arizona and back for several years. Later, he became self-employed as a handyman, remodeler, and general fix-it-guy. He was a master craftsman who took great pleasure in his work whatever he took on. He was an avid reader in his spare time. For fun, he enjoyed festival camping as a guest of friends with the local SCA at Grand Outlandish, attending Beltane, Enchanted Mountain Gathering, Mabon and Yule events with his wife & friends. Jim also liked to go off in the woods camping by himself as a means to recharge and let go of the worries of the day. He was also an avid reader, fiercely intelligent, & curious about everything. The Yuletide season was one of his favorite holidays and it ran from Dec. 21st to Jan. 7th. Jim generously shared his knowledge of troubleshooting & fixing things right up to a week before he landed in the hospital in his final days. He touched hundreds of lives directly and indirectly and was beloved by many. Cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial at a later date once Covid restrictions on public gatherings have been lifted and more people are vaccinated. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Philmont Scout Ranch's Disaster relief fund as they are still recovering from the 2018 Ute Fire that burned a substantial section of the ranch there at https://donations.scouting.org/#/council/NCFD/appeal/113, OR support municipal & state legislation for advancing trade & vocational studies in public schools OR making a donation to a local dog/cat/animal rescue organization in his name.
