James Burton Smith

James B. Smith, (also known as Jim, or Papa Jim), age 74, of Ione, CA, died on September 1, 2018 at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson. He was a son of Dale and Zelpha (Mohr) Smith, and was the devoted husband of Liz Nichols Smith for thirty-eight years. Jim enjoyed watching and attending Nascar, drag races, and football, his favorite team being the ‘49ers. He delivered bread to businesses throughout Amador and neighboring counties for thirty years and was affectionately known as the “bread man.” He is survived by his wife, Liz Nichols Smith, of Ione, CA; son, Dale Smith, of Lincoln, CA; step-children, Debbie (Craig) Ebert, of Bonney Lake, WA, Mark Robles, of Ione, CA, James Chacon Smith, of Amador County, CA, and Jeff Chacon, of Sacramento, CA; and two grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Zelpha Smith, of Sacramento, CA; son, Jack Smith, of Ione, CA; and brothers, Jerry and Jack of Sacramento, CA. A private graveside service will be held at the Ione Public Cemetery.
