Edwards Memorial Funeral Homes - University Place
James Dyer Troup
September 24th, 1929 - April 6th, 2016
James “Jim” Troup passed away peacefully on April 6th 2016 with his wife Edith by his side at the Tacoma Lutheran Retirement home. Jim was born in Hoquiam and moved with his family to Tacoma. He graduated from Stadium High School (formerly Tahoma High School) and soon after enlisted in the United States Air Force and earned the rank First Class Airman. He was active duty for four years and served two years in Japan. Returning from service he became a technician and retired from RCA. He was a life time member of the Elks Club, VFW member, and member of the Eagles. In addition, he spent many hours volunteering at the American Lake Veterans Golf Course. Jim found enjoyment in life while playing golf, handball, camping, hiking, skiing, fishing, swimming, road trips, and watching a variety of sporting events. For many years he held season tickets to the University of Washington Huskies football. If he was not able to physically attend you could find him in his lazyboy watching the game on television. His family will hold dear memories of days at the beach. He loved to ride the waves and help build sandcastles. In spring he would grow a garden in the backyard. The tomatoes were a favorite. Sundays were a treat when he cooked both breakfast and dinner for the family. He would fix dessert and/or popcorn most evenings. Milkshakes were typically on the menu. On holidays family and friends would enjoy his famous fried sweet potatoes drenched in bourbon. Most evenings would end by watching the local news and Johnny Carson. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. James was preceded in death by his parents John and Emma Troup and two brothers, Burt and Francis Troup. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Edith, and four children Dean, Madelon, James, and Patricia. He is also loved by many grandchildren and great grandchildren located throughout the state of Washington. The memorial service for family and friends will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, April 28th 2016 at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 Southeast 240ths Street Kent, WA. A small reception will be held after the service at the Point Defiance Village located at 6414 N Park Way, Tacoma, WA 98407. Please share memories and condolences on the guestbook.
