Jane E. Bontempo
January 27th, 1946 - May 26th, 2021
Suffield-Jane Ellis (Insley) Bontempo, 75, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Baystate Medical Center. Daughter of the late Robert and Joann (Geer) Insley, she was born in Washington D.C. on January 27, 1946. Jane was very educated and shortly after graduating from Niskayuna High School in NY, she obtained her Bachelors from Russell Sage College in Troy, NY and later her Masters Degree from Springfield College. She went on to become an assistant to the chaplain at Mount Holyoke College before settling down as a homemaker to her cherished family. In her early years, Jane and her family spent the summers vacationing at Cape Cod and making lifelong friends with both the Harding and Pena families. Jane lived in Granby for over 30 years, Harwich for 10 years, and most recently, became a resident of Suffield, CT with her dear husband, Robert. As a longtime resident of Granby, she was an active 40 year parishioner at Church of Christ Congregational and singing in their church choir. Jane was a gifted artist and enjoyed custom rug-hooking. She was taught artwork by Virginia Pena, who was known throughout the Cape as a master. Jane was known as a very outgoing and friendly person and was affiliated with many charitable organizations. Jane will be dearly missed by all who knew her, including her loving husband of 43 years, Robert Bontempo; her daughters, Sarah Healy and husband, Matthew, of Greensboro, NC, and Elizabeth Bontempo of Suffield, CT; her grandchildren Jack Robert and Henry Lucas Healy; her brother, Dr. Robert Insley and his wife Barbara of Harwich, MA; her brother-in-law, David Bontempo of Haverhill, MA; her nephew Alex Insley and family and niece Martha Churchill and family; her cousin Anne Mayer; as well as many extended family members and friends. The Bontempo family wishes to thank the caring support of the cardiac doctors, nurses, and palliative care-givers at both Mercy Medical Center and Baystate Medical Center; the many clergy members; and the Sacco family for their generous support. They are forever grateful. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. A celebration of Jane's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Church of Christ Congregational, 235 State St. Granby, MA 01033
