Jane Vancleave
August 9th, 1928 - June 28th, 2023
VANCLEAVE: Ella Jane Vancleave died peacefully, 06-30-2023, aged 94, attended by family, in St. Petersburg FL, where she had lived since 2018. She formerly lived in Sarasota FL 1985-2018; Lima OH 1975-1985; Elwood IN 1956-1975; Detroit MI 1949-1956; and Huntingdon TN where she was raised. She was a graduate of Bruceton High School and Nashville Business College, and worked as a secretary at Publix in Huntingdon. Jane loved to travel. She and her husband Maurice drove frequently to Tennessee from Detroit and later Indiana. She visited Scotland, Italy, Paris, and Beijing China before it was open to the public. She and Maurice joined a motorcycle club in their 40s and rode to Maine, Pike’s Peak, and the Smokey Mountains. In her 60s she drove from Florida to California and back, with her cousin Lou, two women with “a new car, a pot full of money, and the open road.” She was a dedicated genealogist and assembled detailed histories for four family lines. Jane and Maurice often said raising their three sons was their greatest joy. They were excellent parents in all ways, and their sons know how lucky they were to have them, and to enjoy them for so long. She was preceded in death two years ago by Maurice, her husband of 72 years; and parents Rupert and Bessie Mai (Walters) Webb. She is survived by sons Dale (Christine), Ted, and Gary (Karen); grandsons Mark (Susan), and Luke; brother-in-law John Parker (Barbara); nephews Jerry Hampton (Lois), Joe Hampton (Joyce), and John Kight (Melonie); niece Judy Beal (Danny); and numerous grand-nieces and nephews. She was much loved and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be announced in August. Condolences may be sent to https://www.facebook.com/ted.vancleave, or [email protected]. Memorials may be sent to Genealogy Department, Carroll County Library, 625 High St, Ste 102, Huntingdon TN 38344.
