Jane deChantal Vankat
February 20th, 1945 - January 25th, 2021
Jane deChantal Vankat (nee Blatt) went home to be with our Lord on Monday, January 25, 2021 at the age of 75. LEGACY Jane was born to Gladstone and Pauline Blatt on February 20, 1945 in Huntington, West Virginia. While working as an administrator at the FBI in Washington DC, she met the love of her life, they wed on April 8, 1967, and were happily married for 54 years. As the wife of a US Marine, Jane supported her husband and 4 daughters through their many moves and his deployments. During his absence, she kept them connected by writing him a letter each day. Jane was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was also an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, telling stories (to anyone that would listen), going to the movies and being Mema to her 22 grandchildren. Mema’s humor was one of kind. Jane’s strong Catholic faith was a guiding force to her everyday life, and she instilled that in her children and grandchildren. She retired from Jordan Reses, a medical supply company, where she worked with the Veterans Administration and spent her retirement years volunteering at Church of the Incarnation. FAMILY Jane is survived by her handsome husband Lieutenant Colonel William J Vankat USMC (Retired); her daughters Jennifer (Bill) Murphy, Jessica (Gary) Dennis, Kathleen Stephan and the late Sarah Jane (Jim) Luchansky; her grandchildren Nora (Steve), Jimmy (Sarah), Allison, Abigail, Sammy, Casey, Jacob, Josh, Jack, Kylee, Ian, Natalie, Connor, Nolan, Alex, Jordan, Griffin, Spencer, Reed, Luke, Maren and Lyla; her siblings Phillip (Bonnie) Blatt, Thad (Carolyn) Blatt, Paula Wanbaugh, Steven Blatt, Jerome (Peggy) Blatt and many nieces and nephews. Jane is predeceased by her parents, Gladstone & Pauline (nee McGraw) Blatt. FAREWELL CEREMONY Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jane’s viewing on Sunday, January 31, 2021, from 4:00-8:00 PM and Monday, February 1, 2021, from 9:00-10:00 AM in the McGUINNESS FUNERAL HOME, 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury. McGuinness Funeral Homes - Woodbury
We have served the Woodbury community since 1951, when our founder, James A. McGuinness, opened our first funeral home. He knew the importance of families having a trustworthy, local funeral home to help them memorialize their lost loved ones and navigate grief. Our beautiful funeral home in Woodbury was originally built in the late 1700s, and has since been rebuilt to honor its original charm and comfortable, warm feel. Once you walk through our doors, you become family....
