Janet G Alison
July 20th, 1939 - December 21st, 2023
Janet Alison, 84, entered eternal life peacefully on December 21, 2023, surrounded by her family at Viera Hospital in Melbourne, Florida. Janet was the beautiful matriarch of her family and will never be forgotten as beloved wife, mother, grandma, mother-in-law, friend, and sister in Christ. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Frances Crump, Sandra Wagner (Jim), and John D. Alison (Samantha). Beloved grandma to Alexander, Ryan, and Amy (Matthew), and survived by her nephew Douglas. Predeceased by her parents, Wilbur and Laura Sloan, brother William Sloan, and her cherished husband of 63 years, John A. Alison. Janet was born in 1939 in Staten Island, N.Y., married in 1958, raised three children and had three grandchildren. After living in Buffalo, N.Y., she followed medical advice regarding her Systemic Scleroderma prognosis and moved down south to a warmer climate. Thus, Florida became her home for almost 45 years! She graduated from New Dorp High School, American Institute of Banking, University of Buffalo with an Associate Degree (Honors), and University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Education as a Media Specialist (Magna cum Laude). Her accomplishments began at a young age, when she was selected as a radio “Quiz Kid” in Manhattan for a student program called “Know Your City”. After high school, she worked in New York, N.Y. and Washington, D.C. for Union Trust and Hanover Bank. She was also a free-lance writer for “The Grade Teacher” professional educator magazine. After moving to Satellite Beach, FL, her career expanded to Surfside Elementary School, Gardendale Elementary School, and Satellite Beach Public Library’s Reference Librarian. Janet’s personal and volunteer life, however, reflected her passion of what she valued most ~~ her love of God, family, books, and life-long learning. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School, spending time with her children as a Campfire Girl’s leader and Cub Scout den mother, boating with her family on the Indian River, facilitating book discussion groups at Barnes and Noble Bookstore, and President in her Academic Honor Societies of Alpha Sigma Lambda and Kappa Delta Pi. As a devoted member of Prince of Peace Anglican Church (Viera), she enjoyed volunteer work and fellowship with her church friends, community life group, and treasured ‘Butterfly Sisters’. Janet’s favorite motto she strived to live by was “Live Simply, Love Generously, Care Deeply, Speak Kindly—Leave the Rest to God”. Friends and family are invited to join her Celebration of Life Ceremony at Prince of Peace Church on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 11:00am Eastern Standard Time. The service will be live streamed on the church website, www.popv.org. The service will also be recorded and available for viewing from the church web site for those unable to attend.
