Janet Frockt

Janet Clark Frockt lived with excitement, authenticity, humor and love. She was born on June 5, 1944, to Evelyn Hayden Clark and James Clark in Louisville Kentucky. Janet married her great love, "partner-in-crime" and best friend Richard Jay Frockt in 1972. Janet is survived by husband Richard, son Ryan Jeffrey Frockt (Jacqueline Marie Frockt), brother Reagon Clark, sister-in-law Sandee Frockt Schulwolf (Lynn N. Schulwolf) and sister-in-law Madolyn Weiss Frockt. Janet graduated from Louisville's Ahrens Trade School in 1962. It is no surprise that with her outgoing and joyful spirit, Janet was president of her senior class. After graduation, she took classes at the University of Louisville, while working as the a Nurse Recruiter and the Primary Executive Assistant to the Director of Nursing at, what was then, Louisville General Hospital. While raising Ryan, Janet returned to U of L, this time in the Theater Department. When the family moved to Montecito, California in 1986, Janet enrolled at the University of California-Santa Barbara. In 1990, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Theater. One of Janet's proudest achievements was to write and co-produce a teleplay that aired on a California PBS affiliate in 1990. "Dominant Positions" was a drama that explored domestic violence, and the teleplay was adapted from Janet's thesis-work at UCSB. Janet was a frequent collaborator with Richard in both business and civic ventures. She was a key member of WCT Communications Inc. , a Santa Barbara-based company that, in 1994, was named Fortune Magazine's 26th fastest growing public company in the U.S. In 2003, Janet and Richard established the Frockt Family Professorship in History at Western Kentucky University, deepening their longtime commitment to WKU. Janet commitment to the community also included leadership roles in each of her home cities. While in Louisville she was an active member of The Temple and became its Vice President of Sisterhood in 1983. When she moved to California, she became a member of the Brandeis University Literary Society, eventually serving as President of the Santa Barbara Chapter from 1992-1994. She was a Life Member of the Brandeis University National Women's Committee. When the family moved to Las Vegas in 1994, Janet devoted more time to her favorite sport of tennis and managed to be both a fun and fierce partner and competitor. In her Las Vegas life, she was a longtime participant in the Nevada Tennis Association and a member of Las Vegas's KNPR. Janet was a movie buff and committed to her daily crossword puzzles to stay sharp. She completed two newspaper puzzles every morning before Richard joined her for breakfast. The family enjoyed exciting travels and adventures on several continents, but in recent years, Janet most enjoyed quieter time at home, content to be with family, close friends and her own good company. Janet's had an authentic and sparkling light that shone brightly and warmly in the lives of those who were lucky enough to know her. She will always be missed. Services will be on Friday, March 3 at Herman Meyer & Son, 1338 Ellison Avenue in Louisville, Kentucky. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., with visitation at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at The Temple Cemetery. The family requests donations be made to the Temple.
