Janet L. Greco

Janet Korona Greco, 59, of Fonda, NY, passed away on Tuesday April 14, 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family. Born in Amsterdam on March 23, 1961, a daughter of Chester and Theresa Cislo Korona. She was a graduate of Amsterdam High School Class of 1979. She went on to attend Plattsburg and received her bachelor’s degree from Cornell with a major in Biology. She continued her schooling at the college of St. Rose where she received her master’s degree in Education. Janet was a Science Teacher at Fonda-Fultonville Central School for over 30 years and retired in June of 2018. Her passion for teaching translated in every class she taught. She had an uncanny ability to reach children in a deep and positive way. Janet married Paul G. Greco on July 23, 1984. In addition to her cherished husband, survivors include her loving children, Sean Greco of Fonda, NY and Juliane Greco (fiancée Phillip Miskinis) of Castleton, NY. Additional survivors include her mother, Theresa Korona of Amsterdam, NY; one brother, Ken Korona of Amsterdam, NY and three sisters; Patricia Traver of Amsterdam, NY, Diane (Mark) Booth of Ithaca, NY, and Pam (Dave) D’Amato of Haymarket, Virginia. Brother and sister in law, Peter and Dianne Greco of Amsterdam, NY. Nieces, Nephews, and cousins also survive. She was predeceased by her father Chester Korona. Janet truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. Being with her family was what gave her the most joy. Spending quality time with her mother was her top priority. She also enjoyed taking walks outside and always made time in her day to exercise. Janet loved animals and rescued several dogs throughout her life. Reading, gardening, kayaking/traveling with her husband, hiking, and drinking coffee on her front porch on summer mornings were just some of the modest delights that fulfilled her days. Janet was a communicant of the Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and always believed in her faith for guidance. Her family paid this tribute to her, “She was the light of our lives and a beautiful person inside and out. There will not be a day we will not think of her and we will carry her spirit with us forever.” Due to the Covid-19 Outbreak, funeral services are private.
