In Loving Memory

Janet S. Hoffman, aged 78, passed away on July 27, 2024, at her home surrounded by loved ones.  She was born on May 4, 1946, in Fremont, Ohio.  

 

She is survived by her beloved husband, Frederick (Fred) Hoffman, her husband of 58 years; her children, Tami Smith; Tara (Joe) Welch; Michael (Lisa) Hoffman; Bret (Heidi) Hoffman; Charise (Chad) Barker; and Wendy Hoffman.  Also, her grandchildren, Haley and Chad Barker; Caroline Hoffman; Trevor and Alexander Hoffman; Drew Hudson, Ethan Hoffman, and Troy Maersch; her great-grandchildren, Maddi and Bella DeMarco; her siblings, Marcia (Alan) Cross and Linda (Terry) Haugh; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and half-siblings.

 

She was predeceased by her parents Thelma and Robert Lilley; her siblings, Carleen (Layne) Astle; Diane Blue; Nancy Ellsworth; and Sandi (Dan) Schiefley; and subsequently by her biological father Burdette Wolfe. 

 

Janet graduated from Fremont Ross High School in Fremont, Ohio, where she excelled in swimming.  She adored children and operated a home daycare business for over thirty years.  She enjoyed sports, especially football; bird-watching; and visiting Disney World.  She loved animals, Italian cooking (mainly spaghetti), and watching movies. Gone with the Wind was her favorite motion picture She lovingly reconnected with her sisters after many years of separation due to adoption.  Janet was jokingly nicknamed "General Janet" because she was in charge of the house.  She will be remembered as a kind, gentle, and patient woman who loved her family dearly. 

 

There will be a public visitation on Friday, August 2, from 11:30 to 1:00, immediately followed by a private family service at Thompson Funeral Home at 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC. Pastor Mike Turner is the officiant.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
