Janet Noonan, daughter of Josphine and Reuben T. Evans, was born on April 10, 1915 in Ogden, Utah and passed away on February 22, 2008, at her home in Salinas, Calfornia. Raised in Berkeley, California; she graduated from University of California in 1937. Marriage and family followed. In 1948, she created her own business in San Carlos, Calfornia. 'Your Neighbor Service' helped to welcome newcomers to San Francisco Bay Area communities. She founded both the Belmont and San Carlos 'Newcomers Clubs'. In 1952, she married George Raymond Noonan and together they raised Janet's three children. While living in Morgan Hill, California, they were active members of St. John's Episcopal Church. Widowed in 1982, she embarked upon a writing career and authored seven children's picture books, which were published by David C. Cook publishing in the early 1990's. She wrote two books of poetry and her memoirs for her children. In the 1990's, Janet undertook a move to Florida and resided there in Melbourne for a period of ten years before returning to California to be near her children in Salinas. She is remembered for the warmth and love that radiated through her eyes and smile. She is also remembered for the sweet spirit and gracious manner that affected everyone she met. In addition, she is remembered for her heart of devotion to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Remembered tenderly by all who knew her and loved her, she is survived by her children, Janet Barstad of Salinas, Jacquelyn Calvert of Los Osos and Richard Ames of Mount Juliet, Tennessee; her grandchildren, Eric and Marc Barstad, Jocelyn Driskill and Amy Calvert; and by six great-grandchildren, Ashley Driskill, Paris, Bryce, Christian, Nathan, Caleb and Luke Barstad.

Healey Mortuary

At Healey, we treat our Salinas Valley community members like family. Our story begins after World War II when Veteran Herbert C. Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
