Janice Louise (Sramek) Adams was born on July 11, 1943 at home in Leoti, Kansas. She was the second oldest of 11 children born to Philip and Josephine Sramek. After graduating from Scott Community High School, she followed her dream to go to college in California at the University of San Diego, but ultimately came back to her home state and graduated with a bachelor"s degree in Political Science from Kansas State University.
