Jared "Jerry" Charles Karstetter, Jr.
January 26th, 1955 - August 19th, 2024
Jared “Jerry” Charles Karstetter, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2024, at the age of 69 after a lengthy battle with Pancreatic Cancer. He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Julie (Berger) Karstetter; their two daughters, Lauren Petersen (David) and Lindsay Urquhart (Stefan); three cherished grandchildren: Aubrey Petersen, Aiden Petersen, and Emmalyn Urquhart; and his brother James Karstetter (Denise) of Stanwood, Washington.
Jared was born on January 26, 1955, in Lewes, Delaware, to Chel and Jared Karstetter. He grew up in Lynnwood, Washington where he was the eldest of four siblings. He was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Michael, and sister, Theresa.
A graduate of the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts in Society and Justice (Criminal Law) and a Juris Doctorate from Seattle University School of Law, Jared was known as an esteemed member of the legal community. His professional career spanned over four decades, and his commitment to public service was evident through his work with the King County Police Union, King County Corrections Guild, King County Court Officers Guild, Snohomish County Juvenile Court Supervisors and other union organizations. He played an instrumental role in advocating for at-risk youth and received the Washington State Bar Association's Annual Pro Bono Award numerous times.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jared was deeply devoted to his family. He created countless cherished family memories during summers spent boating on Lake Washington and Lake Chelan, enjoying trips to Slidewaters, participating in hours of horse shows with his daughters, and magical Disney vacations. He was known for always being behind the camera recording every moment of his daughters’ accomplishments, as well as his loyalty, generous heart, sarcasm, quick wit, laughter, and delicious prime rib. Jared was also an avid Harley rider, Star Trek fanatic and animal lover.
Jared made a profound impact on all who knew him, and he will be missed by many. A private burial will take place at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline, Washington. A public celebration of life will be held in early October to honor this remarkable man whose legacy will live on through all those whose lives he touched.
Further details for the event will be shared by family and friends.
