Jasper Hardy Field, 92, of Canajoharie, NY, passed away on December 21, 2022, at Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown, NY. Jasper was born on October 14, 1930, in Mineola, Long Island to the late Arthur and Edith (Hardy) Field. He was raised in The United Kingdom and attended school at Rydal Penrhos, known then as Rydal Junior School. He served in the British Army before attending college in Edinburgh, Scotland, graduating with his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry. After moving to Canada, he then went on to serve in the Canadian Reserves. After his schooling, Jasper was employed as a Research Chemist for International Paper Company. He began his career in 1961 in Hawkesbury, Canada before transferring to Sterling Forest, NY. During this time, Jasper was married to the love of his life Ellen Field on July 22, 1961. While employed at International Paper, he continued his schooling at the former Brooklyn Collegiate and Polytechnic Institute, graduating with his Master’s Degree. Throughout the duration of his career, he became the holder of five patents. After more than 30 years of employment, Jasper retired in 1996. He continued to stay active for many years and served as a volunteer for several local organizations in Goshen, NY, where he raised his family and lived for 50 years. Jasper enjoyed painting, taking walks, and having intelligent conversations, though his biggest joy in life was his avid love for all animals and caring for them like his own family. He was known for his love of Christmas by his family, and his traditions are carried on today. He always loved a good joke, and had an intelligent wit about him. Jasper loved music in all forms and was especially fond of the Beatles! His silly sayings, his chess-playing ability, his life cautions, and his love of travel have all been passed on to his surviving family with many smiles and memories. Jasper is survived by his daughters Alison (Andrew) Shelofsky and Hilary (Marc) Respass; sons Timothy (Jennifer) Field and Geoffrey (Phyllis) Field; brother Peter Field; grandchildren Matthew (Jayme) Field, Kyle Resmondo, Chase Resmondo, Joshua Shelofsky, Kelsey Shelofsky, Benjamin Field, and Samantha Field; great-grandchildren Ashlyn Field, Reese Field, Abram Field, and Jonah Field; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his wife Ellen Field, parents Arthur and Edith Field, sister, Nancy Field, and his beloved dog BJ. A Service of Remembrance will take place on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at 4:00PM at Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
