Jathan (Jay) Raleigh Laney, of Lexington KY, died unexpectedly at home on January 28, 2020 at the age of 44; and is blessedly at peace. Jay was born in Bennettsville, South Carolina on May 8, 1975 to Karen Beatty and Raleigh Walker Laney. In his early years, Jay loved flying, farming and agriculture; and was an avid horseman who cared deeply for animals. He was a fisherman and enjoyed time on the water whether he was on the lake or at the ocean. A storyteller who loved to reminisce about the past, he was also a crafty trader who loved researching and negotiating a good deal. He also proved to be an amazing caregiver to both of his grandmother's. Jay was an electrician by trade and a Kentucky Colonel who loved his Wildcats and Clemson Tiger football. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him. He was predeceased by one brother, Aubrey Walker Laney, grandmothers Velma Wylie-Beatty and Betty Neal Walker-Laney, grandfathers James Lewis Beatty and John Wilson Laney Jr.; and is survived by his parents, Karen S Beatty (Billy), Raleigh Walker Laney (Dolores), uncles Gary Beatty, (Barbara) and John W Laney (Sheron), cousins Stephen Beatty, Eric Beatty, Alan Beatty, John W Laney IV (Deborah), Frederick Christopher Laney (Stacey) special cousins, his faithful and loyal companion Sheba and a special neighbor Peggy Carter who loved him like a son. A Gathering will be held February 8, 2020 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at Clark Legacy Center –Brannon. A Celebration of Life Service is planned for a future date in Bennettsville, South Carolina with his eternal place of rest in McCall’s Cemetery in Bennettsville. In Memorial, donations may be made to The American Heart Association, Alzheimer's Association or the charity or organization of your choice in his name.
