Jay Timothy McCarthy, age 73, of Ione, CA, passed away Friday, April 12, 2013, in Ione. Jay was born in Sacramento, CA on May 17, 1939, a son of the late Laura Ruth (Schulz) and Harry Timothy McCarthy. Jay graduated from Ione Union High School on June 7, 1957. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1959 - 1962. Jay retired from the Preston Youth Authority after 27 years as a correctional officer. Jay is survived by sons, Tim McCarthy; Rich McCarthy and Roberta; brother, Tom McCarthy; grandsons, Tim McCarthy, Roger McCarthy, Revvin McCarthy all of Ione; Dawnett; ex-wife, Bonnie Aparicio; many good friends and Jay's trusty dog, Jaybird He liked to hunt and fish even taught his grandkids how to fish, he loved writing poetry and was famous for his burritos, he enjoyed sharing them with family and friends. He was a good dad, grandfather and friend, he will be missed. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
