Jean Walford Garner, age 85 of Greensboro passed early Thursday December 14, 2017 at Beacon Place. The funeral service will be held Sunday December 17, 2:30 pm at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church in Greensboro, with burial to follow in Guilford Memorial Park. Jean was born in West Virginia to the late Wilbur and Erma Walford on December 17, 1931. She liked living a simple life and was very independent. She loved to sing in the church choir and loved spending time with her family. She worked for The State News Agency, a magazine distribution Company, which is where she met her husband. She then worked for Guilford County Schools in food service, then working for the Greensboro YWCA, as an office clerk. She was an avid John Wayne fan. Surviving are her son Ray Garner and wife Fran of Greensboro, grandchildren Alison Garner of Greensboro, Dana Owens and husband David of Climax, NC, great grandchild Tripp Owens, two sisters Della Lee Halstead of Sharonville, OH, and Jerri Paschal and husband Joe of Rural Hall, NC, two nieces Kelly Boothby of VA, Cindy Paschal of Kernersville, NC, and two great nieces. Preceding her in death along with her parents is her husband of 41 years Alson R. Garner, Sr.. Visitation will be held from 1:15 pm until 2:15 pm prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Emmanuel Wesleyan Church; 3235 Yanceyville St., Greensboro, NC 27405. Online condolences can be made at www.lambethtroxlerfuneralhome.com.
