Jean S. O'Dell

Jean Strassburg O’Dell, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. She was 86 years old. Jean is preceded in death by her husband Richard G. O’Dell; her parents, Jeanette Strassburg (Rose) and Frank Strassburg; and her brother James Strassburg. She is survived by her son Kevin R. and Barbara O’Dell of Stony Point, grandsons Jeffrey C. and Renee O’Dell of Norwalk, CT and Jason K. O’Dell (Brittanie Mendez) of Stony Point, NY, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was born in Stony Point on August 4, 1935, where she continued to be a lifelong resident. She graduated salutatorian of Stony Point High School, class of 1953. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Jean worked as a Legal Secretary as well as a Purchasing Agent for Tilcon, NY for 20 years. One of the most important facets of Jean’s life was her incredible faith and commitment to her church. She participated in all aspects of the First United Methodist Church, including but not limited to, Sunday School teacher and Superintendent, Administrative Board President, Board of Trustees member and Layleaders. She found the most joy participating in the Church’s Craft Group with women that were her lifelong friends. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, February 27, 2022 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral home, 71 North Central Highway, Garnerville, NY 10923. A funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 249 West Main Street, Stony Point, NY 10980 on Monday February 28, 2022 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Mount Repose Cemetery in Haverstraw NY. Donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Jean’s memory.
