January 15th, 1932 - January 13th, 2024
Jeanne Bigham England, 91, of Charlotte, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024. Born January 15, 1932 in Chester, SC, she was the daughter of the late Robert Wylie Bigham and Elizabeth McKeown Bigham. Jeanne graduated from Morganton High School and then married her sweetheart of 68 years, Kenneth Franklin England. Jeanne received a degree from Catawba Valley Technical Institute as an operating room tech. Jeanne held many roles throughout her life, including homemaker, Sunday school teacher, youth leader, secretary, sterile processing manager, society editor for a local newspaper, hospitality volunteer at church are just a few. Jeanne loved to entertain, sing, play the piano, decorate the house, anything arts and craft, needlepoint. Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Ken, parents and siblings, Hugh Bigham, Betty Bigham Rowe, Warren Bigham, Martha Bigham Stephens, Anne Bigham Evans. Jeanne is survived by her son, Michael Joseph England and his wife Jill; daughter Candace England Surratt and her husband Michael; as well as special loves of her life, her grandchildren, Kara England Hinkle and her husband David; Meredith England Madden and her husband Michael; Benjamin Carroll England and his wife Hannah; great grandchildren: Ryan, Drew, and Elizabeth Hinkle; Savannah and Jacob Madden. A special thank you to the staff at Briar Creek Health Center at The Barclay at SouthPark for their care of our “Grandmommy” over the past couple of years. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 31, 2024 10 to 10:45 AM in the chapel at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28203 with a celebration of life to follow at 11 am with Pastor Gayle Montgomery officiating. Interment will occur at Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte after the service. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Jeanne’s memory to the teammate fund at Briar Creek Health Center.
