Jeannie C. Magnuson

1944 - 2024

Jeannie Cathleen Magnuson, age 79, of Tucson, AZ passed away peacefully at home at 11:07 am Friday, August 9, 2024. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Buske (Jay); one brother, Michael Tucker; three grandchildren, Morgan Valencia (Ernesto), Austin Longnecker, Jordan Buske and one great grandchild, Enzo Valencia. She was preceded in death by her parents Otis and Genevieve and her beloved husband of twenty years Robert Magnuson. Jeannie graduated from Santa Maria High School with the class of 1963. She was a part of the Rainbow Girls, Santa Maria Assembly #32, a Masonic youth organization where she practiced her deeply held value of charity and community service. She then went on to attend Central Missouri State University in Sedalia, Missouri, studying Home Economics. She eventually changed course and began studying cosmetology. She enjoyed a career as a licensed cosmetologist for 30 years. Jeannie owned a very popular salon in West Plains, Missouri where she utilized and shared her special talent for hairdressing, often giving those who needed it a boost in confidence. She loved people, laughter, conversation and a good cup of coffee. Jeannie was born a Texan, but due to her Father’s position with the “Minuteman Missile” program, moved all over the United States. She felt most at home in California as a young woman, but after her grandchildren were born, she was most at home wherever they were. Affectionately referred to as "Nanny" by her grandchildren, she had a sincere love for her family members, always letting them know how much she cared for them not just through words but her daily actions. Aside from spending quality time with her loved ones, Jeannie enjoyed watching television and movies, crocheting, and cherry cordial ice cream. Jeannie will always be remembered for her bright smile and infectious laugh, as she loved a good joke and was quick to share one, often with her hospice nurse Maya and home health aide Ashley. Jeannie’s family extends special thanks to Maya and Ashley, as well as the rest of the staff at Amedysis Hospice. Her heart was vast and open, she was generous and kind, loyal and clever. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. Services will be held on Thursday, August 22,2024 at Our Mother of Sorrows Church at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Augustine Catholic High School for use in providing education to those in need of assistance with tuition, and/or to send food to those families who utilize the “back pack program” to help them with meals when needed
