March 3rd, 1948 - October 26th, 2022
Tribute Jeffrey H. Reed passed away on October 26, 2022 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Jeff’s Celebration of Life gathering will be on Saturday, November 12 at the Lashley Street Station, 1200 Lashley Street, from 2 to 4 p.m. in Longmont, CO. Jeffrey H. Reed, the son of David “Chris” and Louise (Haggar) Reed, was born on March 3, 1948 in Peterson, IA. He attended elementary school in Peterson and Sanborn, IA until moving to Sheldon, IA where he graduated from Sheldon High School in 1967. He attended Northwest Iowa Community College earning certifications in Auto Body and Auto Mechanics. During high school Jeff worked for Ahlers Phillips 66 gas station and after graduation he worked for Ron Drenkow Motors in Sheldon and the Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge dealer in Cherokee, IA as a mechanic. After moving to Longmont, CO Jeff worked as a carpenter and then for Custom Fence and Longmont Dairy. Jeff loved tinkering with cars. As a child he enjoyed putting model cars together and in high school he painted one of his cars lime green. His favorite cars were his 1967 black Dodge Charger and his Bronco. Jeff also liked to hunt and fish. He loved guns and at one time had an extensive gun and knife collection. During special family gatherings, Jeff would grill and make his famous fried potatoes. Jeff was united in marriage to Chris Lockwood on December 31, 1976 in Longmont, CO. They were blessed with 2 children: Charee Givan of Westminster, CO and Julee Derry of Lone Tree, CO. Jeff was also blessed with 4 grandchildren: Jordan Givan, Christopher Givan, David Derry and Tayler Derry. On September 3, 1988, Jeff was united in marriage to Phyllis Oviedo. From that marriage he formed a long-lasting relationship with Phyllis’s son, Andre, and his children and grandchildren. In addition to his children, and grandchildren, Jeff is survived by three siblings: Kathy Reed of Sioux Falls, SD; Jerry (Mary) Reed of LeMars, IA; Deb (Ron) Plum of Sheldon, IA, three nieces, a nephew, and several cousins. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents. Even though Jeff could be an “ornery old bear,” he was a good man with a big heart who would help out anyone who needed it. He loved his family dearly. Over the years he was there for them. He was a good dad, grandpa, brother, and friend.
