Jeffrey Lee Schmidt
February 26th, 1955 - July 4th, 2014
Jeff Schmidt, age 59, passed away at his home on July 4, 2014 after a courageous, year-long battle with brain cancer. His wife was by his side.Jeff was born February 26, 1955, in Seattle, WA. As Jeff grew up, he loved to tinker with mechanical things, ride bikes, help his dad build things, and help with the wheat harvest at his Grandparents farm in Spokane. Jeff was also a boy scout.Jeff started dancing at Barclay Dance Center when he was in the 4th grade. He started with tap, then went on to jazz and ballet. Jeff and his sister, Susan, became a dancing team, and danced together for many years. They joined an entertainment troupe through the Seattle Elks Club, and performed for many years at Ft. Lewis, McNeil Island, and many other venues. When Jeff was in high school, he choreographed several of Woodway High Schools musicals. For one musical, he taught many of the students how to tap by putting taps on their sneakers. After high school, Jeff began teaching for Barclay-Shelton Dance Center. He taught tap mainly, but also jazz. He was very good with audio equipment, and would splice music for the staff and for recitals. In 1977 Jeff joined the Corvette Club with his treasured 1972 Stingray Corvette. He was the historian and a board member for 5 years. He was also the event chairman of the All-Corvette Drag Race at Seattle International Raceway for 1982, 83, 84 and 86, events which annually drew over 1000 spectators.Jeff met his wife, Kim, at Barclay-Shelton. They were married in 1989, and had two children, Savannah and Skylar. They both danced with the Barclay-Shelton Dance Company for many years. The company performed throughout the local area, and Jeff and Kim continued to share their passion for dance together all through their married life. They danced in the Barclay-Shelton annual recital together every year since they first met in 1987. In 1989 they partnered with Kims parents and opened a hair salon in Crossroads Mall in Bellevue, PZAZZ Hair Design Beauty Supply, which has been there for over 25 years. In recent years Jeff was also working as an insurance agent at Allstate.Jeff got a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Washington, and he was a very enthusiastic and dedicated Husky. He was a thoughtful, funny, and patient man. If you were his friend, you were his friend for life, and he would do anything for you. He loved to crack jokes (especially bad ones to the chagrin of his wife and kids), have fun and laugh.Jeff was a dedicated family man. He was very active at his childrens schools, from Preschool helper to High School chaperone, and many things in between. He was a Boy Scouts leader for his sons troop, and a leader for his daughters Y-Princess troop. He loved to spend time remodeling his home and spend time with his friends and family. He loved waterskiing, boating, camping, dancing and blowing things up on the Fourth of July. He was someone who could fix absolutely anything. If it was broken, Jeff could fix it. He never felt sorry for himself, and not once during his battle with cancer did he say why me? He was a positive person 100% of the time, always seeing the glass as half full.Jeff is survived by Kim, his wife of 25 years, his daughter Savannah and son Skylar, his mother Sylvia, his father Al and stepmother Betty, sister Sue (Kevin), nephew Tyler (Juliana), niece Natalie (Nathan), mother-in-law Sharon, brother-in-law Matt, and many, many more beloved friends and family.A service will be held on Monday July 14 at 1:00 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 17418 - 8th Ave. NE, Shoreline 98155.Jeff loved social gatherings and enjoyed entertaining, so please join us for a happy celebration of his life at the Schmidt home following the internment at Restlawn Cemetery in Edmonds. The family asks that memorial gifts be made in Jeffs name to Providence Hospice of Seattle Foundation. 425 Pontius Ave. N., Suite #300, Seattle, WA 98109 or href=http://www.providencehospiceofseattle.org/ www.providencehospiceofseattle.org
