Jennifer "Jenny" Pearl Ellison
March 18th, 1945 - October 9th, 2021
Jennifer Pearl Ellison was born in Opelousas, Louisiana on March 18, 1945. She was the daughter of Sylvia Comeaux and Fulton Edwards. Jennifer was the third of eight children born to this union. She attended Northeast Elementary School and graduated from the historic J.S. Clark High School built to educate the African American children of Opelousas. Jennifer accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. She attended the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Opelousas, LA. After attending Business College, she moved to California in 1968. In January of 1969, Jennifer married Randolph Campbell, and to this union they welcomed her first son, Randolph Campbell, Jr. In January of 1979, Jennifer married Harold Ellison and gave birth to her second child, a daughter, Heather Ellison. Jennifer was a loving and caring mother and often took her children to the Oakland Zoo. She and her children returned frequently to Louisiana to visit her mother and other family members. Jennifer was a faithful member of the Bay Area Christian Connection Church in Oakland, CA, under the pastoral leadership of Brian K. Woodson, Sr. When her job did not require her to work on Sundays, she was faithful in her attendance and served as an usher. She would always bring her grandson, Charvelle, to Sunday School and worship services. Jennifer’s favorite pastimes included reading and traveling. Jennifer started her career with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Department in 1968. She worked as a Customs Officer for 46 years and retired in February 2014. Following her retirement, she moved to Plumas Lake, CA to be closer to her son and grandchildren. Following a lengthy illness, Jennifer entered into rest on Saturday, October 9, 2021. She was preceded in death by three siblings: Laura Dell Mickens, Robert Fulton Edwards, and Danny Edwards. Jennifer leaves to cherish her memory: Her son, Randolph Campbell; daughter, Heather Clark; a stepson, Rahsaan Ellison; ten grandchildren: Annette, Carvelle Clark, Jr., Jahjanae, Khayana, Travon, Deondrey, Talia, Taiden and Tsaidi Clark; sisters: Norma Edwards and Carla Edwards; brothers: Darrol Edwards and Kelton Edwards; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Oh how blessed is the promise when our spirit is set free to be absent from the body means to live, oh, Lord with thee. Family and Friends are invited to sign the online guestbook and light a candle for Jenny.
