Jerome "Jerry" Holbrook, M.D.
August 1st, 1957 - May 11th, 2024
Jerome “Jerry” Holbrook, son of the late Leon Holbrook and Margie Hanken Holbrook was born at Ellsworth Air Force Base, Rapid City, South Dakota on August 1, 1957, and passed away May 11, 2024.
Jerry graduated Rapid City Central High School in 1975. He served his country in the US Navy from 1975-1979 as a dental technician, 2nd class at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA. He was in the Navy Reserve from 1979-1981 as well as the Nebraska National Guard from 1981-1986.
Jerry received a BS degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1982 and completed a DDS degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry in 1986. He completed a General Practice Residency at the VA Hospital in North Chicago, IL in 1987. After serving in the US Public Health Service as a Staff Dental Officer on the Navajo and Apache Indian Reservations, he returned to school and completed his Oral Surgery Specialty training at the Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, TX. In 2005, Jerry retired from the Public Health Service with the rank of Captain and then started his solo practice in Tucson, AZ which he continued until 2020.
Jerry is survived by his wife Mary, brothers David (Jamie) of Plainfield, IL., Tony of Phoenix, AZ., Chris (Lisa) of Rapid City, SD., sisters Vickie (Dave) Mendelsohn of Rapid City, SD., Penny (Fred) Haydt of Littleton, CO., Terry (Jeff) Piper of Casa Grande, AZ., Candy (Mike) Holbrook of Pierre, SD., brothers-in-law Gary (Janet) Latimer of Lincoln, NE., Larry (Deb) Latimer of Topeka, KS., and sister-in-law Sherry (Paul) Honnold of Clarinda, IA. He also has many nieces and nephews and a host of good friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brother LJ and sister Bobbi.
Jerry will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Rapid City, South Dakota in July of 2024. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
