Jerry Holman, Cherokee Man of Many Hats, CPA, Caveman of Masonic Cave in Volcano, Appreciator of Amador County. Jerry, aka Kayo, was born September 13, 1924 in Claude, Texas. Later moving to Los Angeles and after the war, to Sacramento and Amador County. He established a CPA business in Pine Grove and Jackson. Jerry was on the AD/HOC Committee that formed Pine Acres Community Services District and was also a member on the first board of directors for Amador County as well as president for many years of Amador County Board of Education and during which time he helped form the first drug abuse program in the county. Long time member of American Legion Post 108, Jerry worked with other post members to establish American Legion Ambulance for Amador County. Jerry sponsored the Open Pleasure Class in the horse show at the Amador County Fair for 19 years and also sponsored several young ladies in the Miss Amador County contest at the county fair. He was Boy Scout Master for Troop #89 in Pine Grove for ten years. He also opened the first Amador County Library branch in his CPA office in Pine Grove. He was secretary to Rotary of Amador and a member of Volcano Masonic Lodge #56, three times Master Mason of Volcano Lodge plus his journey through all 32 degrees. Later years had him working for Jeff Holman Auto Center of Sutter Hill as "expeditor". He also worked part-time as docent for the Amador County Museum and driver for Senior Meals on Wheels. Jerry was a veteran of the Army from WWII. Master Sargent at age 19. D-day three he landed on Omaha Beach. Medals from the Battle of the Bulge; Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Silver Star. He leaves his wife, Ginger of Volcano; son, Jeff Holman of Sutter Hill; daughter, Claudia White; grandsons, Jake White, Travis Joyner all of Nampa, Idaho; grandson, Jeffrey Holman of Redwood City, CA; step-children, Tawnya Hall of Arnold, CA, Katrina Martin of Truckee, Joseph Todd Smith of Kentucky; grandchildren, Linnea Hall, Kristina Siino, Dorothy Siino, Travis Smith, Morgan Phillips, Joshua Smith, Dillon Smith, Jessica Monaghan; and self-adopted grandson, Steven Gaffney; 6 great grandchildren and all those children in the county who called him "Grandpa Jerry". Friends are invited to attend a graveside service Monday, May 9, 2011, 11:00 A.M. at Pine Grove Cemetery in Pine Grove. Inurnment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery.
