Jerrine Elizabeth Schoenberg passed away peacefully on April 13, 2013 with family by her side. She was born in Seattle on June 14, 1923, grew up living on Mercer Island, where she took the ferry to Garfield High School, graduating in 1941. She attended Whitman College with the class of 1945 where she performed onstage with the Whitman Dramatic Club. The Whitman newspaper applauded her excellent interpretation of the role of Jane Bennet in Pride and Prejudice. Though she had to leave Whitman before graduating on account of the war, she remained a member of the Delta Gamma sorority for 70 years. Jerrie lived in the community of Richmond Beach from 1951. As a parent, she was involved in the school district, as PTA president of Richmond Beach Elementary and the Butler Jr. High school district. She enjoyed boating on Puget Sound, and took many fishing trips in the family boat with her husband, Robert, and children, Pam and Eric. Jerrie worked at Shoreline Community College for 20 years, finishing her career as a manager in the Registrars office. She was a #1 fan of the Seahawks since the beginning of the team in 1976, and regularly attended games in the Kingdome. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling with friends. Her love of drama and poetry continued throughout her life. She never sent a birthday card without including a few verses. She entered a poetry contest with a poem called Spring about the beauty of nature in the garden. Theres no other place Id rather be seen, than in the Northwest where its lush and green. Her poem was honored by being selected for publication. Jerrie was also recognized for a poem she wrote about the weather, and made an appearance with Steve Poole on the KOMO 4 evening news. Jerrie is survived by her daughter Pamela Prater, son Eric Schoenberg, and granddaughter Kim Mats Mats. At Jerries request, private services will be held for the family. Donations may be made to Childrens Hospital.
