In Memory of Jerry McBride 1928-2021 Jerry McBride, 92 of Arvada passed away peacefully March 14, 2021 after a long and heart breaking period of physical and mental decline inflicted on her by dementia. Jerry was born in Denver in 1928 to Eva and Jake Chavez. She was the oldest of three children. Jerry grew up in Denver and like many of her generation, left school early to help support her family and country. Although she lived through tough times she found time to enjoy roller-skate dancing at Mammoth Gardens. At the age of 17 she began working as a meat packer at then Cudahy Packing Company. It was there that she would meet her future husband, Bob. She would tell of stories of how she was not interested and how he pursued her and eventually, he won and they were married in 1961. And from that union, they had two daughters. She would retire from Cudahy 30 years later to devote the rest of her life to her family and faith. There are so many things to remember about Jerry: a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. A woman that could fix anything, make all things last longer than any manufacturer could ever imagine, a collector of things (lots and lots of things). She was a phenomenal cook. She could butter toast like no other. She could get the butter or margarine spread perfectly from corner to corner that no area was left barren. For those that never experienced it, I am sorry and for those that did, you know exactly what I am talking about. She never left the house without her eyebrows and hair being perfectly coiffed. She knew the perfect antidote to what ailed you even if it killed you. She was honest and frank and you always knew where you stood with her. And of course, a woman with a short fuse and loud voice but long on love and generosity. She leaves behind a lot of stuff that her daughters and son-in-law don’t know what to do with. Toilet paper tubes with and without rubber bands, the elastic off of worn underwear, buckets of buttons, pans with no handles, velvet paintings, assorted bread ties, melmac, knickknacks that have been broken and glued many times, electrical cords to unknown appliances (cut and intact) and many other items we are not sure what they are used for. If you are interested in any of the above items, you should wait the appropriate amount of time and get in touch. Tomorrow will be fine. She will be sorely missed and survived by her children (Jackie and Kathy) and son in law (John). Her grandchildren (Isaac, Jonathan and Chance), great grandchild (Leo), numerous nieces and nephews and cherished grand dog. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Bob, her brother Bob, sister Gloria and many beloved dogs, Bessie, Poochie, Skunky, Chula, Tinker and Puppy. All whom loved her dearly, will never forget her tenacity, wit, generosity, straight-forwardness and her undying love and care for them. A private Celebration of Life will be held in lieu of a service due to her friends not being able to attend because they crossed the finish line ahead of her. The family will be having a private graveside service at a later date.
