Jerry Mitchels passed away on September 14, 2015, after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his family. He was born October 16, 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa to Edward Austin and Mary Adell (LeClair) Mitchels. In 1960, at age 17, Jerry went to Santa Ana, CA and worked at the El Toro Marine Base for a year. After the year, he returned to Iowa before moving to Tacoma in 1967 where he spent the rest of his life. Jerry worked for Tacoma Boatbuilding Company for 25 years and Specialty Products Inc. for 12 years. He was a Seahawks fan and season ticket holder since 1978. Jerry is survived by his children Teri (Wade) Hager of Tacoma and Clint Mitchels of University Place; four grandsons, Nathan Hager and Ryan Hager of Tacoma, Brandon Mitchels and Cameron Mitchels of University Place; his sister Betty Olson of Iowa; brother Fred (Lisa) Mitchels Sr. of Florida and several nieces and nephews including Jim Pritchard of Olympia and Fred (Natalie) Mitchels Jr. of Florida. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Darlene White and MaryLee Halterman, brother Steve Halterman, half-sister Joyce Johnson, half-brother Frank Mitchels and granddaughter Lauren Mitchels who welcomed him with open arms. Now you can dance all you want Dad.
