Jerry Shamblin
March 5th, 1939 - July 14th, 2016
SHAMBLIN JERRY D. Passed away on July 13, 2016, at his home in Estes Park, CO. He lived with his daughter, Kerry Shamblin and his son-in-law, Brandon Miller. Jerry was fortunate to be living in the Rocky Mountains the last several years and enjoyed regular trips to Rocky Mountain National Park. Born on March 5, 1939, Jerry was the son of Mona McClung and Jack Freeman Shamblin, Sr. Raised in South Charleston, WV, Jerry excelled in high school as an accomplished athlete and president of his class. He attended the University of West Virginia where he graduated from the School of Medicine, going on to specialize in Otolaryngology. Jerry served his country as a Captain at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL. After his military service, Jerry moved to Pittsburgh, PA where he completed his medical training, and settled down to practice medicine and raise a family. He was a compassionate and caring physician and was committed to restoring the hearing of his patients. Jerry loved to fish and hunt, mostly for the camaraderie it created with others who shared his love of nature. He enjoyed learning about Native American history and culture, and he collected books on the subject and works of art that captured the close relationship between Native Americans and their natural surroundings. "Doc" enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, loved telling stories, and would engage in a debate on almost any subject. In addition to his gift for healing and restoring hearing in his patients, Jerry had a knack for repairing all things mechanical. He could often be found tinkering with lawn mowers, tractors, and appliances. Jerry was predeceased by his parents; and his brother, Jack F. Shamblin, Jr. He will be missed by his children, Sheri, Kerry, and Michael, and their spouses, Bruno Hancock, Brandon Miller and Janel Allison-Shamblin. His children will celebrate his life and honor his spirit in a special place in the mountains. Those who wish to honor Jerry's life are requested to make a donation to the Cody Dieruf Benefit Foundation (www.breathinisbelievin.org) that seeks to help those living with Cystic Fibrosis. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/postgazette/obituary.aspx?pid=180727358#sthash.uKklph54.dpuf Service Information A service summary is not available
