Jerry Douglas Trainer, 85, of Carlsbad, California passed away January 31, 2019 at the VA hospital in La Jolla, California. He was diagnosed with oral cancer in October and the cancer became very aggressive after Christmas, ultimately taking his life. Jerry was born in Trenton, Missouri in 1933 to Bill and Wilford Trainer. His formative years were spent in Mexico, Missouri. The Trainer family moved to Bozeman, Montana when Jerry was 17 and he graduated from Gallatin County High School in 1951. He went on to study business management at Montana State University where he joined the fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon. While he attended college, he was also part of the ROTC program. He met the love of his life, Marcia Woodley, when she began attending MSU. They were married in 1954 and he graduated in 1955 at which time he entered the Air Force. In 1966, he graduated from USC with a Master’s in Business Administration. Jerry worked as a procurement officer for the Air Force until he retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1976. He went on to work for Aerojet General until 1989. Upon retirement he and Marcia moved to Fallbrook, California to work on their avocado farm. After Marcia passed away in December 1999, Jerry moved to Carlsbad, California. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, and his younger brother Richard, as well as his wife of 45 years, Marcia. He is survived by his son, Michael Trainer; his daughter, Michele Jensen (husband Robert); his granddaughters Kristen Reimer (husband Matt) and Lauren Moore (husband Brian); his grandsons Alex Trainer and Ryan Jensen (wife Kimberly); as well as great grandsons Devon and Joseph Reimer and great granddaughter Laney Moore. A memorial service will be held at the National Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii at a time to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to:The Fisher House - Naval Medical Center San Diego I & II or the American Cancer Society
