Jimmy R. Lowe

Jimmy R. Lowe Jimmy was born April 29th,1939 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Jesse R. and Melba Chandler Lowe. He moved to Winter Haven in 1960 to join his family business, Central Florida Gas Corporation. He spent 45 years working in the gas industry. He served as President of The Polk County Gas Association, and was a Director and President of The Florida Natural Gas Association. Jimmy was the recipient of the FNGA W.J. Smith distinguish service honor for his efforts in the betterment of the natural gas industry. Jimmy served 6 years in the United States Air Force Reserves, where he served as a surgical technician. In 1968 Jimmy was elected as a Winter Haven City Commissioner and became the city’s youngest Mayor in 1970 at the age of 30. He loved serving the City of Winter Haven and the people who lived here. He was an active member of the Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce and served on various committees. He especially loved spear heading the Cleveland Indians barbeques doing his favorite thing, serving good food to friends and residents of our city. His love of good food led him to starting his own catering company and was known for his mastery of smoking and grilling. He was a charter member and past President of the Winter Haven Jaycees as well as a charter member of the Winter Haven Sertoma Club. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and a Leadership Member for Boy Scouts of America. Jimmy was an avid golfer who took home several trophies. He loved spending time at his hunting camp, boating and fishing. He also loved spending time at his home on Little Gasparilla Island where you could find him many evenings cooking shrimp, crab or clams for his kids, grandkids and friends. Preceded in death by his parents Jesse R. Lowe and Melba Chandler Lowe. He is survived by his wife Renee. Daughter Vivian Daniels (Jeff), daughter Holly Davis (Nick), stepson Nicholas Weaver (Brandy), sister Sally Lowe Blalock (Maury), six grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
