It is with great sadness to family and friends that Joan M. (Christensen) Brisson, 70, was called early home to the Lord on November 20, 2013 after struggling with complications from surgery. Joan was a woman of true substance and an inspiration to family, friends and colleagues wherever she went. She made a difference in all of our lives in some way. Joan worked steadfastly on many efforts, striving to give voice to our military soldiers and their families. She taught us to enjoy life to its fullest and dance as though no one is watching. In her work, Joan Brisson was inspired with a mission to foster relationships to help people at home and in faraway places to secure the highest level of medical care for those in need. Joan knew what she wanted to accomplish and she was driven to produce results, always working with a smile and total optimism for what could be if we all stood together to make it happen. Joan gave everyone she knew unconditional support and in doing so created strong, lasting relationships. A lot of her efforts were done quietly behind the scenes – if you were a friend in need and she knew it, she would be your greatest champion, making sure you had what you needed. Joan never needed to receive any applause for all that she accomplished. She taught us to love. She taught us to give. She taught us to have fun. She taught us to stand up for what we believed in. She taught us to take what life handed us, punt if necessary, and always fall back on Plan B with gratitude. She taught us to be the best person we could be to all of those around us. She loved all the good things that life had to offer including her children, her grandchildren, friends, traveling, books, chocolate and wine. Her light will continue to shine and be a beacon for all of us to carry her legacy forward. As a Mother, Grandmother (Oma), Aunt, Sister, and friend we will miss her greatly. She is survived by ex-husband, Robert F. Brisson Jr.; daughter, Tina Marie Christensen; son, Robert F. (Mary) Brisson, III and 4 grandsons (Joseph, Robbie, Joshua and Benjamin). The family will receive friends at the Beckman Williamson Funeral Home, Viera, FL. Sunday, November 24, 2013 from 5 till 8PM. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 2:30PM, Monday, November 25, 2013 at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Viera, FL. In lieu of flowers contributions can also be made to St John Evangelist CCW Marian Grotto or Assoc. United States Army Space Coast Chapter as these were very dear to Joan’s heart. .

I'm so sorry to hear of Joan's passing. It was unexpected. We stayed in touch over the years after working on projects for the government. What I remember is that Joan was always passionate about the underdog. She cared about the plight of others. I hope her family will take this opportunity to remember all the good things associated with Joan's life and their own. Blessings on them.

I'm so sorry for your loss...Joan always had a smile or joke for me when I sat at the front desk. Laughing even when I messed up the lines and sent the wrong call to her. God Bless

Tina Christensen-Daughter

My Dearest Mom, You have been my rock from a small child till now. You have made a difference not just in my life but wherever you go and to so many people in the world by giving of yourself always selflessly and unconditionally. You have taught us how to love and to be good stewards of the Lord in our everyday lives. You were a woman of substance and truly an inspiration to family, friends and colleagues. You were not just a mother, you were my friend. A woman couldn't ask for a better friend, always there no matter what time of day or night. You have made a difference in my life that words could never explain but you and I know. You taught us to enjoy life and dance as though no one is watching. I will always have a toast for you and continue to carry your legacy wherever I go. You light up my life and your candle will always shine for eternity. As a Mother, Grandmother(Oma), Aunt, Sister, and friend I will miss you dearly. With All My Love, TinaMarie

Joan, I guess I will never be able to pronounce your name correctly.... Now I will only pronounce your name in silence, within my heart. I could spend days talking my admiration for you, but I just want you to know that many times I look at you talking and my admiration for your entire being was so big that I thought: I wish I could be just like you... You will always be part of my life as long as I shall life.

CAPT Merritt M. Lake

I had the privilege of working with Joan when I was detailed to Homeland Security in the Office of Health Affairs in Washington DC for quite a few years. Her knowledge of the Medical Community, especially in the DC Metro area was encyclopedic. My dear Joan, thanks for the opportunity to observe your wisdom which was steeped in love, from close proximity and thanks for your friendship. Your physical absence from my life is gone but your spiritual guidance will be my personal treasure. An obituary can never capture your wonderful laugh and how you inspired people with your contagious spirit. All your life's successes are not recorded here. But we will never forget how your sweet disposition and love of life made us feel. I believe Ralph Waldo Emerson said it best when he wrote these words; "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to leave the world a better place, to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived, this is to have succeeded." Dear Tina and Robert, I was shocked to hear about your mom today. She was a great lady and did so much for so many. Although only knowing her for a short time she helped me both personally and professionally. You are all in our thoughts and prayers as you go forward and follow in an extraordinary set of foot prints. God Bless you all. Gary

My sincere condolences to the entire Brisson family on the loss of my dear friend, "Saint Joan." There's no question that she's in Heaven at this very moment, providing instructions to the angels and to Saint Peter himself on how to run the place. You've gotta love Joan for her wit, integrity, and enthusiastic spirit. She will continue to live on in all of us. God Bless you Joan - I will NEVER forget you!

Joan and I shared office space for a short time some years ago, and we developed a friendship. She always had some encouraging advice and an action plan ready to conquer whatever challenge lay ahead. Always could find good in a situation- it is what it is! I will miss her.
