Joan Hoover, with family at her side, made her final and peaceful journey from Zon Beachside Assisted Living, Saturday, November 25, 2023. Joan was born, July 21, 1938, in Indianapolis, IN, of parents, Bert and Fern Auble. The oldest of four daughters, Joan lived in West Newton, IN, a small Quaker/Methodist community just south of Indy. Having attended grade and middle schools in the community, Joan graduated as co-valedictorian from Decatur Central High School, Indianapolis, IN. Following high school graduation, Joan entered Indiana University's Bloomington Campus where she met her future husband, Barry, and graduated with highest honors with a BS in History and English Education. After graduating from IU and teaching one year, Joan accepted a position with the United Methodist Church teaching at the College of West Africa, Monrovia, Liberia. Living in opposite parts of the world, Joan and Barry soon determined that this was not the way it should be. Married in 1962, and leaving the West Newton United Methodist Church immediately after the celebration, Joan and Barry have lived in Florida ever since. Joan never met a stranger, and she enjoyed life immensely, giving, giving, always giving! Joan enjoyed quilting, sewing her own clothes, long walks in Gleason Park, and nature-especially birds. An avid sports fan, Joan loved and spent years bowling on the teachers' league and watching football and baseball. Joan was a long-time member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church and the Methodist Women's Group thereof. Joan spent her teaching career, the greater part of 30 years, teaching Math at Delaura Middle School, Satellite Beach, FL. Joan is survived by her husband, Barry, of 61 years; daughter, Kelly Hoover (Kathy); daughter Kerry Holsombach (Bobby); grandson Bobby Holsombach III (Kaley); grandson Ricky Holsombach (Brittany); great-grandsons Reid and Clay; great-granddaughter, Lilli; sisters Suzie Mathis, Deanna Everhart, Kathy Rather and their families; sister-in-law, Susan Lightfoot (Scott) and their family. Our family wishes to extend our heartfelt thank to the staff of Zon Beachside Assisted Living and to St. Francis for their loving care and constant encouragement during our journey together. In lieu of flowers or donations, Joand would say, "Reach out to one who needs you and give them a little piece of your heart". A celebration of life will be held at the indian Harbour Beach Community Center, Monday, January 29, 2024, 11:00AM-2:00PM. (Casual Attire)
